Including that third-inning RBI double, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is 41-for-101 (.406) with six doubles and five homers over the life of his 23-game hitting streak. It's the second-longest streak in the majors this year, trailing only teammate Jackie Bradley Jr.'s recent 29-gamer.

Red Sox hold steady at No. 2 in rankings

AL East-leading Boston stayed near the top of the Power Rankings this week. Ryan P. Morrison notes that what David Ortiz has been able to accomplish for the Red Sox this season has been both impressive and a big part of the team's success. Week 8 Power Rankings

David Ortiz last week actually fouled a ball off the same spot on his left foot that was hit by a pitch Saturday in Toronto, but "feels good enough to go" in the series-opener against the Orioles, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. Ortiz has six homers in his last nine games at Camden Yards.

Another clutch mark for David Ortiz

Ortiz put the Red Sox ahead, 9-8, with a top-of-the-ninth homer on Saturday -- the 20th go-ahead HR that he's hit in the ninth inning or later. That total ties Jason Giambi for the most homers of that type among players who have made their big league debuts over the past 50 years, Elias Sports Bureau notes.
