Marlins trade for Padres closer Rodney

The San Diego Padres announced Thursday they have sent veteran closer Fernando Rodney to the Miami Marlins in exchange for prospect Chris Paddack.

Another angle on Marlins' closer choice: since the beginning of 2014, A.J. Ramos has 39 games of 4-plus outs, Fernando Rodney 7. Ramos provides greater flexibility in setup innings.

I haven't forgotten that, during the preseason, the Marlins seemed to be trying anything to keep A.J. Ramos in a setup role rather than closing. (Remember Carter Capps?) If that trade happens, I'd bet Rodney still closes.
