Phillies suffer small dip in rankings

The Phillies have won nine of their last 15 games, but their opponents over that stretch have been the Braves, Marlins and Reds. They'll need to beat better teams to keep impressing our voters. Week 7 Power Rankings

Philly is king of 2016 drafts

Barring the 76ers inexplicably trading the No. 1 overall draft pick that they were awarded Tuesday, ESPN Stats & Info reports that Philadelphia becomes the first city that will draft within the top two in three major sports in one calendar year.

  • Phillies: first on June 9
  • Eagles: second on April 28
  • 76ers: first on June 23

The Phillies are now tied for first place after beating the Marlins. They don't score many runs, but they're winning all the close games. Jeanmar Gomez has 16 saves -- closers can come from anywhere! -- and Hector Neris has been a dominant force in a setup role with 33 K's in 24 innings and a .125 average allowed. Phillies could have eyes on Puk

Keith Law's first attempt at projecting the first round of the MLB draft has the Phillies picking A.J. Puk from Florida. The LHP threw well on Saturday in front of a number of scouts, including three folks from Philadelphia. Keith Law's mock draft 1.0 (Insider)

All K's, no innings for Vince Velasquez

Velasquez struck out 10 Marlins on Tuesday but only pitched five innings, making him the second Phillies pitcher since 1893 to accomplish that feat, per Elias Sports Bureau. Robert Person struck out 10 Cardinals in five innings in 2000.
