How can Red Sox land Chris Sale?

Clay Buchholz is a holdover from a bygone era of Red Sox pitchers, and Pedro Martinez thinks it has affected him. "I think he's missing [Jon] Lester, big-time. He's missing [John] Lackey. He's probably missing relating to someone who really understands him -- David Ross, Jason Varitek. I think he's mature enough to understand what to do, but some people just don't have the ability to understand what to do when the struggles come."

David Ortiz hits homer No. 25 of the season, No. 528 of the career, a three-run shot into the right-field bullpens against Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey to cut the Red Sox's deficit to 4-3 in the third inning at Fenway Park.

Pedro Martinez said if David Ortiz continues his otherworldly success through the second half of what Big Papi insists will be his final season, "I'll be the first to say, 'No, you're not leaving.' I'll lock the door."

Pedro Martinez on struggling Red Sox ace David Price: "To be honest, I think he's going to be all right. It's just a matter of making the right adjustments."

Small chance Red Sox trade Moncada

If Dave Dombrowski wants to make another big move, 2B Yoan Moncada is the guy to keep. He's blocked by Dustin Pedroia but could move to third base or left field. Schoenfield: Untouchable players for all 30 teams

Justin Verlander finally beats Boston

Verlander earned his first victory over the Red Sox in over five years on Monday. The right-hander had been winless in his previous six regular-season starts against Boston, which tied his second-longest personal winless streak against any opponent, the Elias Sports Bureau reports. Verlander hasn't won any of his last 10 starts vs. the Indians.
