Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer, who will make his MLB debut against the Twins on Friday, said it was an emotional moment when he was called into [Triple-A Toledo manager] Lloyd McClendon's office Wednesday night and informed he was being summoned by the big club: "I've been dreaming of this since I was four years old and playing T-Ball. This is the the second-best day of my life, besides my wedding — my wife will enjoy that -- No, it's a blessing, and I'm just so happy to finally achieve my goal, and hopefully I can compete well enough to stay up here."

"When we get hot, it's scary," Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez said following Detroit's 7-3 win over Oakland on Thursday. Martinez, who recorded a hit and drew two walks, said teams used to be scared of coming into Detroit and that the Tigers want to make sure opponents feel that way again. Asked if he felt the past two games were indicative of what the team is capable of, when guys are swinging the bat well, Martinez said: "I think we're capable of more."

So Anibal Sanchez' day ends with a truly bizarre final line -- 5 2/3 IP, 3H, 2R, 7 BB and 9 K -- after 114 pitches. According to ESPN Stats and Info, the highest number of walks the Tigers starter had given up on a day where he had 9 K's or more prior to today was 4.

Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez records his eighth strikeout as he strands two runners for the A's in the fifth inning. Encouraging sign that he's generating swings and misses. Tigers were really pulling for him to have a strong start today; need him to turn the corner.

Interesting development in right field. Tigers OF J.D. Martinez has been joined by a flock of pigeons that seemed to be making themselves at home in the air space there. That can't be distracting, right?

Tigers ace Justin Verlander said he really enjoyed watching top prospect Michael Fulmer pitch in spring training: "I loved his mentality on the mound. You know, he's not scared. And I love his stuff. He attacks guys and I think he has the chance to be an excellent pitcher at the big-league level."

Tigers do not have a plan for top prospect Michael Fulmer beyond Friday, when is will make his MLB debut. His arrival will be met eagerly with anticipation given how highly the 23-year-old has been touted. From Tigers manager Brad Ausmus: "He's got stuff for sure. He throws 95, he's got a wipeout slider, but the big leagues is a little different. Guys have seen stuff like that before. You do have to locate your pitches, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have that type of stuff in your arsenal."

Detroit calls up top pitching prospect Fulmer

With Shane Greene nursing a blistered middle finger, the Tigers have called up top prospect Michael Fulmer, who could make his major league debut Friday.

This should be exciting news to Tigers fans: top prospect Michael Fulmer, acquired last season in the Yoenis Cespedes trade, will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo. Regarded as one of the organization's brightest young pitchers and he will presumably make his MLB debut in place of injured starter Shane Greene.
