Hochevar encouraged by elbow progress
Given the weekend off after experiencing tightness in his elbow on Friday night, Royals reliever Luke Hochevar said the ailment has since subsided. "Just normal stuff," Hochevar said after a side session on Monday. "That’s really it. … No lingering effects." Kansas City Star
Gio Gonzalez and the Washington bullpen combined on a five-hitter, Ryan Zimmerman and Daniel Murphy drove in first-inning runs and the Nationals beat the Kansas City Royals 2-0 on Monday night.
Royals had a wretched week
And it shows in the rankings with a three-spot slip. A 1-5 week in which KC continued to move toward the AL cellar in runs per game isn't doing anyone any good. Week 4 Power Rankings
Eric Hosmer homered, Ian Kennedy took a shutout into the sixth inning, and the Kansas City Royals ended a scoreless streak and a five-game skid with a 4-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
Wade Miley scattered five hits for his first career shutout, Kyle Seager hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run first inning and the Seattle Mariners took a 6-0 win over Kansas City on Saturday.

Mariners, who beat KC 1-0 last night on just one hit (a Seth Smith homer) are up 4-0 after two first inning hits -- another Smith solo shot and a three-run blast by Kyle Seager.
Felix Hernandez tied Jamie Moyer's franchise record for career victories at 145 on Friday with the Seattle Mariners' 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

The Mariners get one hit -- a Seth Smith home run -- and beat the Royals 1-0. The Royals go 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position, Leonys Martin crashes into the wall to catch the final out and Felix Hernandez ties Jamie Moyer for most wins in Mariners history. Oh, and there was a controversial call against the Royals in the ninth.
Davis does it on Wednesday night
Khris Davis had the longest home run by a nose Wednesday night with his fourth-inning blast against Detroit. While Byung-Ho Park may not be leading the Majors in HRs, his is a story of quality over quantity.
Three Angels homered in a 4-2 win over the Royals on Wednesday, but the series sweep was dampened by a pregame injury to closer Huston Street.
Johnny Giavotella drove in three runs with his first homer of the season, Mike Trout and Carlos Perez had two-run singles, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 9-4 on Tuesday.

Swag discounts for defensive errors?
Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers, drew heat after offering merchandise discounts for each misplay from an opposing defender. The team canceled the promotion and called it "an unfortunate lapse in judgment." Fox Sports
Albert Pujols hit two homers and Mike Trout added another, powering the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
