The Cardinals-Mets game in New York has been postponed due to rain. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader Tuesday. Game 1 will be Carlos Martinez against Noah Syndergaard at 4:10 p.m. ET and the second game will be Jaime Garcia vs. Bartolo Colon 30 minutes after the conclusion of that one.

Molly Wright, wife of David Wright, gave birth to the couple's first child on Saturday -- daughter Olivia Shea Wright. She weighed eight pounds, 11 ounces.

The Mets are in favorable position in one regard as they head into the trade deadline. They play 15 of their next 20 games at Citi Field, with 10 home games against the Rockies, Padres and Diamondbacks. Those three teams are a combined 33 games under .500. "This is when good teams take off," said Mets manager Terry Collins. We need to take off."

Monday's Mets-Cardinals lineups

Kelly Johnson is starting for a second straight day in place of Neil Walker for the Mets, who send Noah Syndergaard to the hill to face the Cardinals.

Mets second baseman Neil Walker will sit for the second straight game as the Mets will go with Kelly Johnson at second base for their opener with the Cardinals on Monday night. Manager Terry Collins told Walker he would give him two days off when the team was in Miami. Walker is 4-for-45 in his last 13 games. "I just need to be more consistent in my approach," Walker said before batting practice on Monday.

Left-hander Sean Gilmartin has been placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Las Vegas with shoulder soreness. Gilmartin is 9-5 with a 4.63 ERA in 16 appearances (15 starts) for the Pacific Coast League club this season.

Steven Matz gets back on track

Matz hurled six shutout innings to earn his first win since May 25 on Sunday. It marked the fifth time Matz did not allow a run while pitching at least six innings this season. The only other Mets rookies to have five such starts prior to August are Jerry Koosman (six in 1968) and Ron Darling (five in 1984), per the Elias Sports Bureau.
