Dominic Smith No. 29 prospect in 2016

Smith's defense is only good enough for first base, but he's one of the best pure hitters in the minors. Steven Matz and Amed Rosario are also in the top 50, while Gavin Cecchini rounds out New York's prospects on this list. Law: Top 100 prospects (Insider)

Mets closer Jeurys Familia settles for $4.1M

The New York Mets and closer Jeurys Familia agreed to a one-year, $4.1-million deal on Wednesday, which allowed both parties to avoid arbitration.

Adam Rubin ESPN Staff Writer

It does not appear as if the Mets currently are engaged in any contract extension talks with their young players. Still, general manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday about that topic coming up soon: "It's possible. When you're talking about long-term deals with younger players, it needs to be sort of a mutual interest in doing so. Typically we find out about that mutual interest a little bit later, closer to spring training, or even in spring training. We'll see if that happens."
