Phillies bullpen hitting stride

After posting a 6.33 ERA through the first eight games of the season, Phillies reliever's ERA has dropped to 3.60 through the last 15 games.

Kipnis sends it over the wall for two (0:24)

Bryce Harper sort of gets turned around on a fly ball -- a difficult but catchable ball -- and it drops as the Phillies score twice for a 2-0 lead. Jonathan Papelbon's reaction, a questionable roll of the eyes and outstretched arms, suggest he thought the ball should have been caught. Luckily they're best buddies now.

MLB Rumor Central: Timetable for Mark Appel

The Phillies are not in a rush to promote right-hander Mark Appel, the former No. 1 pick who is off to a fast start at Triple-A.

Odubel Herrera just walked again. On pace to walk 154 times. The only men with 154-BB seasons in history: Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Mark McGwire. Wait. What?

After the Eagles pick, the Phillies are on the clock, with the No. 1 pick in the June baseball draft. Teams lined up behind them get the strong vibe their choice right now would be Univ. of Fla. LHP A.J. Puk.

The Phillies traded for Charlie Morton and paid him $8 million figuring he'd provide short-term rotation stability and be a trade chip in July. They announced today he needs hamstring surgery and he's done for the year. Not quite what they had in mind. Got 17.1 innings out of him!

Move along: Time to cut bait on these players

When it comes to a team's future, now might be the time to clear some space. Dan Szymborski has a few thoughts on which players are cluttering rosters and need to be shown the door.

Nationals' great 2016 start (2:43)

File under "Signs That Vince Velasquez Isn't Just Another 23-Year Old Pitcher": In the Nationals clubhouse prior to tonight's series opener against the Phillies, instead of the usual generic pregame TV programming. multiple Sony flatscreens were showing video of Velasquez's most recent start against the Mets. In their first series against Philly, the Nats missed Velasquez, who struck out 25 batters in two scoreless outings to begin the season before getting roughed up in New York.

Phillies take dip in rankings

Plain and simple, Philadelphia needs more firepower at the plate. And with a three-game road series against the No. 2 ranked Nationals, things won't get any easier for the Phillies. Week 3 Power Rankings
