Davis does it on Wednesday night

Khris Davis had the longest home run by a nose Wednesday night with his fourth-inning blast against Detroit. While Byung-Ho Park may not be leading the Majors in HRs, his is a story of quality over quantity.

Mercer puts the Pirates up in the 12th (0:36)

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Trevor Story had a chance to win it in the 12th with the winning runs in scoring position and two outs, but home plate ump Ramon DeJesus rung him up on an 0-2 fastball that was clearly inside. Give Mark Melancon credit for hitting the glove of Francisco Cervelli, but a terrible call and the Rockies drop their fifth in a row.

McCutchen joins Hall of Fame company

Andrew McCutchen's three bombs on Tuesday night marked the second time he's recorded a three-homer game. Unbelievably, former Pirates Willie Stargell and Ralph Kiner achieved that feat four times in their careers, while Roberto Clemente also did it twice.

Tuesday night fireworks

The long ball was king on Tuesday night, with 10 home runs of at least 425 feet being sent into orbit. Edwin Encarnacion had the longest of the day -- a 451-foot blast.

play
McCutchen joins SVP after 3-HR game (2:11)

Jayson Stark ESPN Senior Writer

So Andrew McCutchen has hit as many HRs tonight (3) as the Braves have hit all season. Hard to believe I just typed that.

Is John Jaso blossoming at age 32?

Jaso has 15 stolen bases in 568 career games, has never had 350 at-bats or surpassed 10 homers in a season. Now he's leading off every game for Pittsburgh. Is his bat for real? Best new leadoff hitters

Trout sends another one into orbit

Mike Trout hit his 50th home run of at least 425 feet on Monday, the most in the MLB since 2012. The homer was the third-longest blast of Monday night, trailing only long balls from Matt Joyce and Michael Saunders.

Pirates jump to No. 10 in rankings

Pittsburgh is just .500 but ranked above 10-9 Oakland and Arizona. Maybe that's because Sean Rodriguez, Jody Mercer and Gregory Polanco hit three of this year's top seven homers in terms of true distance on Friday, per the ESPN Home Run Tracker. Week 3 Power Rankings
