Division leaders with comfy cushions

Entering July 1, all six division leaders have at least a five-game lead over the rest of the teams in their respective divisions.

Eddie Matz ESPN Senior Writer

Since divisional play started in 1969, there's never been a season in which every division leader had at least a five-game lead heading into July - until now. The O's, Indians, Rangers, Nats, Cubs, and Giants all have a cushion of five-plus games.

Is the Rangers' bullpen getting tired?

The Yankees scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to come back and shock the Rangers. Some think Jeff Banister relies too much on his bullpen, but the numbers suggest that the rotation isn't doing enough. It was just one of those games, David Schoenfield writes. Five things we learned Wednesday

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

The Yankees are currently 9 games out of first place in the AL East, their largest deficit of the season; have not been closer than 5.5G out since they were 4.5G back on 4/28. Going into their third game of the series against the Rangers tonight, the Yankees have lost 5 consecutive games to Texas at Yankee Stadium dating back to 2015 (0-3 last season).

How did Demeritte make Futures roster?

Keith Law was surprised to see Travis Demeritte representing the Rangers on the United States' team. The 21-year-old has 20 homers for hitter-friendly High Desert this year but has struck out in a third of his plate appearances. One of his teammates would have been a better choice. Hamels in rare company with 9-1 start

Cole Hamels pitched seven shutout innings and improved his record to 9-1 in the Rangers' 7-1 win on Tuesday. Hamels is the third Rangers starting pitcher to win at least nine of his first 10 decisions in a season, joining Roger Pavlik (1996) and Tommy Hunter (2010), the Elias Sports Bureau notes.

Rangers getting comfy in New York

The Yankees' loss to the Rangers on Tuesday was their fifth straight at Yankee Stadium, tying their longest home losing streak vs. that franchise (five straight home losses vs. Washington Senators in 1966), ESPN Stats & Info notes.
