Rangers' road wins doom Blue Jays

It's a foregone conclusion that any team up 2-0 is more likely to win in a best-of-five series. To no one's surprise, teams have fared very well when they take the first two games on the road. Will Texas continue that pattern, or will Toronto rally?

Hanser Alberto on his game-winning 14th inning hit following his error many innings earlier: "That was very, very special. Because I came from making an error that cost us a couple runs. And then I went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. It was like, Wow, this is a good time to do something good."

Rangers get to Jays in 14th, go up 2-0 in ALDS

Backup infielder Hanser Alberto singled home the go-ahead run in the 14th inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 on Friday for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five ALDS.

Jim Caple Senior Writer,

The game didn't start that well for rookie Hanser Alberto but it ended very well. Playing in place of injured Adrian Beltre, he made an error in the second inning that led to two unearned runs and tied the game. But he hung in there and singled home the winning run in the 14th inning of the Rangers 6-4 Game 2 victory. Texas returns home with 2-0 lead in series.

Jays, Rangers benches clear in 13th

Rangers P Keone Kela and Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson got into a heated argument after Donaldson hit a foul ball in the 13th, leading to both benches emptying. Donaldson eventually struck out, and the game is now in the 14th.

Jim Caple Senior Writer,

What were Jays and Kele jawing over in the 13th? Hard to say until post-game interviews but perhaps they're all just upset they might miss their flight to Texas as we head to the 14th inning.

Edwin Encarnacion almost puts game away

After a walk to Jose Bautista, EncarnaciĆ³n hit a fly to deep center and was really close to a walk-off homer in the 13th, but Delino DeShields made the grab at the warning track. The Rangers and Blue Jays are even at 4 going to the 14th. Texas has a 1-0 lead in the ALDS. Follow live

Benches empty after Josh Donaldson hits long foul off Rangers reliever Keone Kela, but no punches thrown. Donaldson strikes out.

Jim Caple Senior Writer,

Now in the 13th inning and after four-plus hours, if this game lasts much longer, perhaps Beltre's back will have time to fully heal and he can pinch-hit.

Gordon Edes ESPN Staff Writer

There have been three AL division series games that have gone 13 innings or more. Last was 2012, Game 4, Orioles 2, Yankees 1 in 13.

Blue Jays-Rangers still 4-4 in the 12th

Both bullpens have taken over as the only run since the fifth inning was Mike Napoli's game-tying RBI single in the eighth for the Rangers. The Blue Jays need this one to avoid a two-game deficit. Follow live

Jim Caple Senior Writer,

As we head to the 12th inning tied 4-4, the Rangers have just three hits since the first inning and only nine since Beltre left in Game 1.
