Oakland Athletics Power Rankings - 2012

| WEEK | RECORD | RANK | COMMENT | |
| Week 8 | 21-21 | 19 | A 3-4 record last week (stop me if you've heard this before) has the A's continuing to hang around .500. Keep an eye on Ryan Cook, who is now up to 20 2/3 innings out of the bullpen without allowing a run. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 7 | 18-17 | 15 | Josh Reddick's three homers last week pushed him into a tie for 10th in baseball and helped the A's stick around .500 for another week. Injury troubles are starting to mount in the lineup, however: Besides having Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes on the DL, the A's have Kurt Suzuki, Jemile Weeks, Brandon Inge, and Kila Ka'aihue dealing with less severe maladies. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 6 | 15-14 | 21 | Oakland won four of six in Boston and Tampa Bay last week. If you made that bet before the season, please report to Las Vegas and collect your oversized $100,000 check. Still, there's quite a lot of luck in the A's record, as their run differential is third-worst in the American League. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 5 | 11-12 | 22 | A demoralizing ninth-inning loss to the Orioles on Sunday afternoon kept the A's from having a 4-2 week. Being last in the AL in runs scored, with 15 percent fewer runs than the next-worst team, does not bode well for their chances to approximate a .500 winning percentage in the long term. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 4 | 8-9 | 23 | Remember the beer-league softball A's? Oakland went 11-for-13 in steal attempts last week and lead the AL in that department despite having a .277 on-base percentage that bests only Seattle and Pittsburgh. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 3 | 4-6 | 24 | A .500 week for the A's with two shutouts might mean more if the record had been compiled against teams better than the Royals and Mariners. Yoenis Cespedes continues to produce, with an OPS over .900. But the A's are getting consistent hitting from just one other lineup spot: the DH platoon of Seth Smith and Jonny Gomes. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 2 | 1-3 | 27 | Yoenis Cespedes hit two homers in the A's last two games, but big innings by the Mariners -- of all offenses (a four-run third on Friday and a six-run fourth on Saturday) -- helped sink a team that was hoping for more from Brandon McCarthy, Bartolo Colon and the defense. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
| Week 1 | 1-1 | 29 | A's fans should savor the team's league-leading run differential (+1) because come Wednesday and Thursday, reality will set in as actual good teams start to take the field in earnest. -- Jason Wojciechowski: Beaneball | |
