With the UFC whittling its roster down, was Urijah Faber really on the bubble in his fight with Ivan Menjivar? We'll never know, as he came through with flying colors in a fight that looked like a "must win." Faber seized Menjivar's back and maneuvered his legs to apply a standing rear naked choke. It was all Menjivar could do to hold on, before tapping (somewhat incredulously) while Faber took a ride on his back. As a result, Faber once again finds himself in a position near the top of the 135-pound class. It's almost a cliché now that Faber gets title shots more than anybody, but bantamweight is strangely aligned. He's already beaten some of the top contenders (like Ian Wineland), but he has lost to strapholders Renan Barao and Dominick Cruz. Who does he draw next? He's guessing a top ten fighter, but not anybody holding a belt.
