The news that Brock Lesnar had to pull out of his bout against Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 was disheartening -- for Lesnar (who continues suffering from diverticulitis and was made to face the music of its full implications) and for fans (who love him or love to hate him). Lesnar had successful surgery to remove 12 inches of his colon, and he is hopeful that he'll return in early 2012. That's happy optimism, and we can only hope he recovers in full and can continue on.
Meanwhile, champion Cain Velasquez remains on top here, but the clock continues to tick while he recovers from shoulder surgery. Frank Mir might be the only fighter who hurts his cause each time he wins. And the Strikeforce Grand Prix resumes June 18 to see where the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett stack up.
