Power Rankings: Pound-for-pound
Tuesday, Dec. 11
Benson Henderson has a goal of breaking whatever record Anderson Silva leaves behind for consecutive title defenses. This seems ambitious (some might even say cocky), particularly in the UFC's most stacked division. But then again, Henderson is off to a roaring start. He edged out Frankie Edgar at UFC 150 in his first title defense, which was suitable -- if not convincing. The ever-evasive Edgar is near impossible to dominate. But his work against Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 5 showcased his athleticism and elasticity, and it cements his position in this edition of the pound-for-pound rankings. Meanwhile, 2013 is looking like a year of potential superfights. Already signed on are Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo, and it looks like Georges St-Pierre will next defend against erstwhile Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz. As for Anderson Silva? The UFC wants to avoid a missed opportunity like Manny Pacquiao/Floyd Mayweather, and that means either a battle with St-Pierre, or an epic tilt with Jon Jones.
