Carlos Condit made a statement against previously unbeaten Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 132. The flying knee was the coup de grace that announced him as a legitimate title contender for one and all to see. Problem is, his satellite affiliate Georges St. Pierre, is already booked up with a fight against Nick Diaz on Oct. 29 at UFC 137. In other words, we have an Anthony Pettis-type dilemma for Condit, who will likely take another fight to stay busy.
Meanwhile, what was meant to be Nate Marquardt's foray into the welterweight top-10 and/or Rick Story's signature moment turned into a company travesty. Marquardt was fired for high testosterone and Story dropped a decision to his last-minute replacement Charlie Brenneman in a tough spot. This adds to the complexity of the division's rankings, but makes one thing clear -- there is absolute parity under champion St. Pierre. Could the UFC be tempted into a Condit/Story fight? It almost seems fair the more you think about it.
Jake Ellenberger and Jake Shields are meeting in New Orleans in November and Josh Koscheck is getting very close to returning, too, though Stephan Bonnar might tempt him to put on some temporary weight. Then there's that little item between B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch that still needs to be resolved …
