Report: Mauricio Rua robbed in Brazil
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua was reportedly robbed at gunpoint during a recent stay in Rio de Janeiro.
According to a report by Brazilian website Portal Vale Tudo, Rua was driving a friend's car in the area when four armed men forced him to pull over. Rua's manager, Eduardo Alsono, told PVT the robbers stole Rua's car, money and clothes.
One of the men reportedly recognized the professional fighter during the incident. Rua was forced to walk shirtless along an expressway to the nearest police station.
According to Alonso, the 32-year-old Rua was in Rio de Janeiro to meet with sponsors. Prior to being robbed, he, Alonso and UFC welterweight Demian Maia had met for dinner.
Rua (22-9), also known as "Shogun," hasn't fought since he suffered a third-round TKO loss to Dan Henderson on March 23. He recently underwent surgery to repair a broken nose he suffered in the fight. There is no timetable for his return.
