Ben Askren to face Nobutatsu Suzuki
ONE FC officials announced the welterweight title bout on Thursday. The live event at Dubai World Trade Centre will mark the promotion's first in the Middle East.
Askren (13-0) is coming off a first-round submission over Bakhtiyar Abbasov in his ONE FC debut in May. The former U.S. Olympic wrestler and Bellator welterweight champion has finished his past three opponents.
Suzuki (11-1-2) won the title in a five-round unanimous decision over UFC veteran Brock Larson in March. The Japanese welterweight has finished 10 of his 11 wins via knockout.
"Ben Askren is the greatest wrestler to compete in mixed martial arts and his clash with Suzuki is one of the most anticipated bouts in the history of the welterweight division," ONE FC CEO Victor Cui said in a statement.
In addition to the welterweight title fight, lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and featherweight title-holder Koji Oishi will appear on the card. A middleweight bout for the vacant title is also expected to be announced.
