Invicta FC 8 event set for Sept. 6

All-female fight promotion Invicta Fighting Championships has announced its next live event will take place on Sept. 6 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

An atomweight title fight between current champion Michelle Waterson and Yasuko Tamada will headline the Invicta FC 8 event. The card will air exclusively on Fight Pass, the UFC's Internet subscription service.

It was announced last month the two promotions signed a multiyear agreement that makes Fight Pass the exclusive provider of Invicta broadcasts. To date, Invicta has promoted seven live events since opening its doors in 2012.

Invicta CEO Shannon Knapp said on Thursday the promotion hopes to promote an event approximately once every two months.

"We plan on doing quite a few shows," Knapp said. "We don't have a number that is set in stone. We'll kick off this first show and we hope to do one every other month. There's always obstacles, so I don't want to commit to anything at this time."

In addition to the 105-pound title fight between Waterson (11-3) and Tamada (15-8-3), the card will feature title fights at 115 and 135 pounds. Strawweights Stephanie Eggink (4-1) and Katja Kankaanpaa (9-1-1) will fight for the 115-pound title. Bantamweights Ediane Gomes (10-2) and Tonya Evinger (13-5) will meet for the 135-pound title.

Featherweight champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino will not fight on the Sept. 6 card. The former Strikeforce champion has publicly stated she will drop to 135 pounds by the end of 2014. Knapp said Justino would appear on Fight Pass in the future.

"We're in communication with her daily," Knapp said. "We'll have announcements to make about that in the near future. Invicta is definitely her home and you will see her on this platform for sure."
