A UFC bantamweight bout between Urijah Faber and Masanori Kanehara has been added to a UFC Fight Night event Sept. 20 in Saitama, Japan, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

Faber (31-7) had been linked to a potential fight against Norifumi Yamamoto but will meet Kanehara instead. FightSport Asia earlier reported the 135-pound contest. The event is scheduled to air on Fight Pass, the UFC's Internet subscription service.

Dubbed the "California Kid," Faber, 35, has never fought outside of North America. The former WEC featherweight champion is coming off a submission win over Alex Caceres in the third round of a bantamweight bout at UFC 175 on July 5.

A rib injury suffered in the Caceres fight prevented Faber from an appearance at UFC 177 later this month in his hometown of Sacramento, California.

Kanehara (23-11-5) will be making his UFC debut against Faber. He took a loss in his most recent bout in April when he was disqualified for shoving himself and Toshiaki Kitada completely from the ring.

The Japanese bantamweight is a former Sengoku featherweight champion. He holds notable wins over Chan Sung Jung, Michihiro Omigawa and Yamamoto. Prior to the loss in April, Kanehara had won six consecutive bouts.

A non-title heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt is scheduled to headline the UFC Fight Night event.
