A five-round welterweight meeting between Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann will serve as the main event for The Ultimate Fighter Finale on June 1.

The UFC announced the matchup via Twitter on Wednesday. The card takes place in Las Vegas.

The winner could very well earn a shot at the UFC welterweight title, most likely in early 2013. Current champion Georges St. Pierre is expected to face interim title-holder Carlos Condit as early as November.

Ellenberger (27-5) already has a strong case for a crack at the winner of that matchup, having won his last six fights. The 26-year-old took a unanimous decision victory over Diego Sanchez earlier this year after posting a stunning 53-second knockout over Jake Shields in late 2011.

Kampmann (19-5) looks to finally solidify a shot at the title after coming so close to the opportunity twice earlier in his career. The Las Vegas-based fighter is 4-2 in his last six, with both losses ending in controversial decisions.

His latest win came in dramatic fashion as he tapped out Thiago Alves in the final minute of their main event contest at UFC on FX 2 in Sydney.

Each contender will look to separate himself in what has become a crowded 170-pound division in St. Pierre's absence. Also contending for a title shot are Johny Hendricks and Josh Koscheck, who are scheduled to meet at UFC on Fox 3 in May.
