Fedor Emelianenko to fight in June
Former Pride FC heavyweight titleholder Fedor Emelianenko returns to action June 21 against Pedro Rizzo, M-1 Global director of operations Evgeni Kogan announced Friday on Twitter.
The bout will be held at Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Emelianenko, once rated the No. 1 mixed martial artist, has won two fights in a row since his release from Strikeforce in August 2011.
He was cut by the promotion after suffering a first-round TKO to then-light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson on July 30. It was Emelianenko's third loss in a row.
Emelianenko will take a professional record of 33-4 (one contest) into the bout with Rizzo. During his most recent fight on Dec. 31, the 35-year-old Emelianenko knocked out Satoshi Ishii in the first round.
