Eddie Alvarez to face Patricky Freire
Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez returns to action Oct. 12 against Patricky Freire in Windsor, Ontario, promotion CEO Bjorn Rebney announced Monday.
The bout will be Alvarez's last on his current deal with Bellator. Alvarez has stated that he will consider all offers upon becoming a free agent, including those that are likely to come his way from UFC.
He will carry a professional record of 23-3 into the cage and seek his second straight win since losing the 155-pound title to Michael Chandler on Nov. 19, 2011.
Chandler submitted Alvarez by rear-naked choke in the fourth round at Bellator 58 in Hollywood, Fla.
Alvarez rebounded from the loss on April 20 with a first-round TKO of Shinya Aoki.
Freire (10-3) fights for the first time since suffering a second-round submission to Lloyd Woodard on March 23 during a Bellator Lightweight Tournament quarterfinal bout.
Seven of the hard-hitting Freire's wins have come by knockout.
