Lightweight contender Gray Maynard will face Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas, the promotion announced on Monday.

After suffering the first loss of his pro career in October 2011, a fourth-round knockout to then-lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, Maynard got back in the win column on June 22 with a split decision over Clay Guida.

Maynard has a professional record of 11-1-1 with one no-contest.

Lauzon could have put himself in the lightweight contender conversation Feb. 22 when he took on Anthony Pettis. But a head kick from Pettis in the first round knocked him out.

He rebounded from that loss on Aug. 4 with a third-round submission of Jamie Varner. Lauzon is 22-7 overall.

Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos makes his second title defense in the main event against former titleholder Cain Velasquez.

It will be the second bout between dos Santos and Velasquez in a little more than a year.

Dos Santos registered a first-round knockout of Velasquez in November 2011 to claim the heavyweight title belt.

In his most recent outing, dos Santos defeated Frank Mir by second-round TKO at UFC 146. Velasquez overwhelmed Antonio Silva en route to a first-round TKO on that May 26 card.

Former top middleweight contender Chael Sonnen returns to the light heavyweight division for a rematch with Forrest Griffin. Griffin is a former UFC light heavyweight titleholder.

The two met in a 205-pound bout on Sept. 6, 2003. Griffin submitted Sonnen in the first round.
