The matchup represents one of the toughest opponents to date for Browne (13-0-1). His best win came via first-round knockout over Stefan Struve in May 2011. The closest the Albuquerque-based fighter has come to defeat was a unanimous decision draw to Cheick Kongo at UFC 120.
Silva (16-4) looks to snap a two-fight losing streak. The Brazilian was stopped in the first round on back-to-back fights against Strikeforce champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC champion Cain Velasquez.
Featherweight Bart Palaszewski missed weight and was given one hour to cut to 146 pounds after weighing in at 147 for an undercard fight against Diego Nunes. Palaszewski was able to drop to the required 146-pound weight limit after an hour.
A lightweight bout between Dennis Hallman (51-14-2) and Thiago Tavares (17-4-1) was scrapped by the UFC when officials confirmed Hallman expected to weigh in seven pounds heavy. It is the second consecutive fight in which Hallman has missed weight.
Another high-profile bout scheduled for Friday pits flyweights Jussier Formiga (14-1) and John Dodson (13-5) against each other in a fight that will determine the No. 1 contender for newly crowned champ Demetrious Johnson. Both weighed in at 126.
