Barboza-Makdessi set for UFC 162
Barboza (11-1) returns to action after handing Lucas Martins his first professional loss on Jan. 19 with an opening-round submission. The win came nearly 10 months after Barboza tasted his first loss.
An impressive victory over Makdessi likely will land Barboza a top-10 lightweight ranking.
Makdessi seeks his third consecutive win. In his most recent outing, at UFC 158 on March 16, he beat Daron Cruickshank by unanimous decision -- improving to 11-2.
Middleweight champion Anderson Silva puts his title on the line against top contender Chris Weidman in the UFC 162 main event. It will be Silva's first title defense in a year -- he beat Chael Sonnen by second-round TKO at UFC 148 on July 7, 2012, in Las Vegas.
Silva ventured to light-heavyweight for a short-notice bout against Stephen Bonnar at UFC 153 in October 2012. He finished Bonnar by first-round TKO.
Weidman (9-0) returns to action for the first time since July 11, when he knocked out then-top middleweight contender Mark Munoz in the first round. He later suffered a shoulder injury during a training session.
