| | LONDON -- Cuban high jumper Javier Sotomayor will have a positive test for cocaine considered by an International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) arbitration
panel in Monaco on April 7.
Sotomayor, the current world record holder and 1992 Barcelona Olympic champion, tested positive for cocaine at the 1998 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada.
The 32-year-old Cuban, who strongly denied taking the stimulant, was cleared by his national federation but the IAAF decided last November to send the case to its arbitration panel.
IAAF spokesman Giorgio Reineri said the panel would meet next Friday.
Sotomayor faces a two-year ban if the panel decides he has committed a doping offense. | |
