SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- By the time Richie DeJesus of Boynton Beach, Fla., made his first out Sunday, it was too late for Tallmadge, Ohio. DeJesus hit a home run in the second inning and added an RBI single in the third to lead Boynton Beach to a 7-2 victory over Tallmadge in pool play at the Little League World Series. "It was right down the middle," DeJesus said of the fastball he sent some 230 feet over the center-field wall in the second. Boynton Beach improved to 2-0 and advanced to the U.S. semifinals along with Saugus, Mass., a 2-1 winner over Richland, Wash. Those two teams play Monday night for first place in Pool A. Tallmadge -- the only U.S. team to reach the World Series without a loss -- and Richland were eliminated with their second losses. "I'm trying to keep the kids positive," Tallmadge manager Randy Keen said. "We're here in fantasy land. We're here in Williamsport. You have to keep things in perspective." R.J. Neal followed DeJesus' homer with a line drive single to left field, then scored on a fielder's choice to give Boynton Beach a 2-0 lead in the second. DeJesus missed a grand slam by inches in the third inning when he hit the top of the right-field wall with what proved to be an RBI single that scored Devon Travis. Jordan Irene raced home on a passed ball to give Boynton Beach a 4-0 lead in the third. "Richie, I'm happy for him because he's been struggling lately," Boynton Beach coach Joe Irene said. "He's a great hitter, great glove and a fine guy." Tallmadge closed within 4-1 in the bottom of the third when Joe Cochran reached base on a line drive single to left field and scored on an infield error. But Boynton Beach increased its lead to 6-1 in the fourth when Benny Townend and Matt Overton scored on an infield error. The lead was extended to 7-1 in the fifth when Neal scored on a fielder's choice. Losing pitcher Nick Thompson (0-1) made it 8-2 with a solo home run to center field in the fifth. Cody Emerson (1-0) earned the win, allowing just two hits and finishing with eight strikeouts. "We haven't brought our bats here to Williamsport, and that's our bread and butter," Keen said. "But I'm still real proud of these guys. There's Little Leaguers from 105 countries who'd love to be where we are."
