Orange's Dion Waiters off to NBA
"I've decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professional basketball player by entering my name in the NBA Draft this spring," Waiters said in a statement issued by the university. "I plan on signing with an agent."
Waiters averaged 12.6 points, 2.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds for the Orange, who lost 77-70 to Ohio State in the Elite Eight.
Buoyed by Waiters, Syracuse weathered a tumultuous season that saw one assistant coach get fired amid sexual abuse allegations, the school self report possible violations of a self-imposed drug policy, and two suspensions for center Fab Melo.
Despite the off-court problems, the Orange (34-3) earned a No. 1 seed in the East Region and Waiters left the New York campus with fond memories.
"I've had an amazing experience at Syracuse University," Waiters said.
