LAS VEGAS -- In his NBA debut, Blazers guard Jerryd Bayless scored a game-high 28 points, including a pair of free-throws with just 12.3 seconds left that sealed a 78-73 Las Vegas Summer League victory for Portland over Washington.
Bayless set the pace for the Blazers, scoring 10 of the team's 16 first-quarter points. He continued his strong effort in the second quarter, chipping in seven points in the quarter. Both teams struggled in the first half, the Wizards shooting just 38.7 percent while the Blazers shot just 39.3 percent.
"It was a great win for us. I think I played well," said Bayless after the win. "It got a lot of kinks out I think and I'm still figuring out how to shoot at this level. I think I'll be fine and we've got to get ready for tomorrow."
Despite leading by nine points in the third quarter and holding the lead through much of the fourth quarter, the Blazers took the lead for good when Bernard Robinson connected on a free throw with just 50 seconds left in the game.
Notes: Due to a weather delay, the Washington Wizards arrived in Las Vegas just two hours prior to tip-off of Monday's contest and spent just one hour at their hotel prior to leaving for COX Pavilion.
Portland will resume action on Tuesday as it hosts the Sacramento Kings at COX Pavilion and the Wizards will take Tuesday off and will return to the hardwood on Wednesday as they take on the Philadelphia 76ers, also in Cox Pavilion.
