Thursday, Nov. 9 5:15pm ET Raptors G Bogues to undergo knee surgery, out 4-6 weeks TORONTO (Ticker) -- Toronto Raptors backup point guard Muggsy Bogues will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Friday and is expected to miss four to six weeks. After playing eight minutes and contributing three assists in Toronto's season-opening loss to Detroit on October 31, Bogues has missed Toronto's last four games with soreness of the knee. "It is a frustrating time for me, especially at this stage of my career," Bogues said. "I need to do the smart thing and get myself 100 percent healthy." The Raptors re-signed the 35-year-old Bogues to a multi-year contract on September 15, one month after signing veteran point guard Mark Jackson to a four-year, $16.4 million contract. The shortest player in NBA history at 5-foot-3, Bogues averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 assists in 80 games last season, his first with the Raptors. He led the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.07), and is the league's all-time leader in that category. However, Bogues is often posted up on defense, making him more effective as a spark off the bench rather than as a starter. In his 14th NBA season, Bogues ranks 11th on the NBA's all-time assists list with 6,724, fourth among active players. He has averaged 7.7 points and 7.6 assists in 889 NBA games. The 12th overall pick in the 1987 draft by the Washington Bullets, Bogues was selected by Charlotte in the 1988 expansion draft and spent 9 1/2 seasons with the Hornets before being traded to Golden State in November 1997.
