G Miller, F Malone named NBA Players of Week

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Cleveland Cavaliers guard Andre Miller and Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone were named NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week on Tuesday.

Miller averaged 22.3 points, 17.0 assists and 7.3 rebounds as the Cavaliers defeated the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls last week. In the three games, he handed out 51 assists while committing just six turnovers.

The 25-year-old Miller recorded his third triple-double of the season with 22 points, 17 assists and a career-high-tying 10 rebounds in a 99-81 win over the Raptors on February 12.

Miller also was named Player of the Week for the week ending December 9, and is the first member of the Cavaliers ever to receive honors twice in one season.

Malone averaged 27.5 points and 12.3 rebounds as Utah won four straight road games against the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto and New York Knicks. On Sunday, Malone collected 27 points, 16 rebounds and six assists as the Jazz won for the third time in four nights, 92-89, over the Knicks.

Utah is 5-2 on its franchise-record nine-game road trip as the Delta Center is being used for the Olympics. On Monday, Malone narrowly missed a triple-double with 35 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to overcome 18 points and 12 assists by Miller as Utah defeated Cleveland, 103-92.

Other Eastern Conference candidates were Atlanta's Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Charlotte's Baron Davis, Detroit's Ben Wallace, Miami's Eddie Jones, New Jersey's Jason Kidd, Orlando's Tracy McGrady and Pat Garrity and Miller's teammates, Lamond Murray and Wesley Person.

Western Conference candidates were Tim Duncan of San Antonio and rookie Jason Richardson of Golden State.
