2011-12 NBA champions

In the great tradition of the ESPN NBA Summer Forecast, it's time to roll out our first Winter Forecast.
(Thanks, lockout!)
For foresight, we consulted with 115 of ESPN's best basketball minds, including contributors from ESPN.com, the TrueHoop Network, TrueHoop TV, Daily Dime Live, ESPN TV, ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes, espnW, ESPN The Magazine, ESPN Insider, ESPN Fantasy, ESPN Games, ESPN Dallas, ESPN Los Angeles, ESPN Boston, ESPN Chicago, ESPN New York, ESPN Stats & Information, ESPN Topics and ESPN Analytics.
And yes, our voters slid their ballots under the door before any games were played on Opening Day.
To participate in the discussion and perhaps get your opinion published on this page, #NBApicks is the Twitter hashtag to use. Or you can just follow along at @NBAonESPN. Check out the East champs here and the West here.
Enjoy, argue, agree, disagree ...
2011-12 Forecast: NBA champions
| RANK | TEAM | VOTES | |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() Miami Heat 2010-11 record: 58-24 Lost in NBA finals of '10-11 playoffs Predicted 2011-12 record: 50-16 |
@Keaner89: The Heat will win it all. With Wade and LeBron they have to much speed and defense for teams to handle in a 7 game series, #NBApicks @SpencerGotSwag8: #NBApicks is the only place LeBron will ever get a ring. I'd like to see him show up in a finals series before we all crown the heat. |
![]() Oklahoma City Thunder 2010-11 record: 55-27 Lost in West finals Predicted 2011-12 record: 48-18 |
@kyle2325: Come on. OKC runner-up? Let's be real -- time for KD to take over the NBA and become a legend. OKC wins in 6. #NBApicks @Skeetys: It's gotta be the Thunder. Westbrook will be fine, the magnifying glass is on them this year. It doesn't seem to bother them. #NBApicks |
![]() Chicago Bulls 2010-11 record: 62-20 Lost in East finals Predicted 2011-12 record: 48-18 |
@JChen91: Good starting 5, deep bench, good coach. Chicago has the makings of a championship team. Now Boozer just needs to stay healthy. #NBApicks |
![]() Dallas Mavericks 2010-11 record: 57-25 Won NBA title Predicted 2011-12 record: 45-21 |
@mmm9731: There is no chance Dallas repeats as NBA Champs. Their team is old, they haven't won a game all year, & OKC stands in their way. #NBApicks |
(tie) |
![]() Los Angeles Clippers 2010-11 record: 32-50 Did not make playoffs Predicted 2011-12 record: 41-25 |
@AndTFar: I would not count out the Lakers. Placing the Clippers above the Lakers is a little absurd and early, if you ask me. #NBApicks |
(tie) |
![]() Memphis Grizzlies 2010-11 record: 46-36 Lost in West semifinals Predicted 2011-12 record: 40-26 |
@RobsBryson: Most casual NBA Fans still view the "Grizzlies" name as not worthy. They will earn that respect again. 4th is just fine for now. #NBApicks @ljreardon2024: I love the Grizzlies but an NBA title? Come on, maybe in a few years but I don't think they are ready yet. #NBApicks |
