Tim Duncan had 29 points and 21 rebounds for San Antonio, which
was without injured center David Robinson. The Spurs were 3-of-22
from the field in the fourth quarter in their lowest-scoring game
of the season.
"It's frustrating to play like this," San Antonio guard
Charles Smith said. "Neither team could hit their shots. When they
finally hit a few, it took the fire out of us."
Minutes after the game, the Alamodome was evacuated because of a
bomb threat called into a city emergency dispatcher.
Authorities let people re-enter the building after a one-hour
search, with facility manager Kevin Duvall saying no explosives
"We brought in the dogs, assessed the situation, and everything
is OK," Duvall said.
While San Antonio missed its first 13 shots in the fourth
quarter, Charlotte was able to take a 72-63 lead on Drew's
3-pointer and Brown's free throws with 7:24 to play.
The Spurs rallied with a 7-0 run to make it 72-70 on Steve
Smith's 3-pointer with 3:38 to play.
San Antonio cut the lead to 74-73 on Tony Parker's layup and a
free throw by Duncan with 45.5 seconds to play. But Brown and
Stacey Augmon sealed it by each making two free throws over the
final 13.5 seconds.
San Antonio, which lost its third straight home game, could get
no closer than five points.
"The only thing we can do is stay positive," Charles Smith
said. "Three straight losses at home is three losses. We can't let
that carry over to our next game."
Charlotte opened the third quarter with a 10-3 run and led 54-47
on Baron Davis' breakaway dunk with 7:55 remaining in the period.
San Antonio answered with an 8-0 run to lead 55-54 on two free
throws by Duncan with 5:37 to play in the quarter.
The Hornets headed into the fourth quarter leading 65-63. After
leading by as many as 12 points in the first quarter, San Antonio
was outscored 21-15 in the second quarter and trailed 44-43 at
halftime. Duncan led the Spurs with 20 first half points, while
Drew had 12 for the Hornets.
Game notes Duncan had his 35th double-double of the season, and 255th
of his career. ... Duncan has scored 20 or more points in 25
straight games ... San Antonio leads the all-time series with
Charlotte by an 17-12 count ... The Spurs have won five of the last
seven meetings with the Hornets. ... San Antonio Spurs center David
Robinson sat out Tuesday game due to a right quad contusion. ...
Robinson, who played in all 42 games this season for the Spurs,
originally was injured in the first quarter of San Antonio's 90-82
victory over the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 26. The 12-year
veteran is averaging 11 points and 7.8 rebounds.
