ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The Orlando Magic rid themselves of some
heavy emotional baggage Tuesday night.
Tracy McGrady scored from the inside, outside and everywhere in between.
First, Orlando coach Doc Rivers took a gracious step in ending
his long-running feud with his Milwaukee counterpart, George Karl.
Then, the Magic snapped their 10-game regular-season losing skid to
the Bucks with a 101-91 win behind Tracy McGrady's 48 points and 12
"The rivalry might be on now," Rivers said. "You can't have a
rivalry when one team wins 10 games in a row. I don't know what
it's called, but it's definitely not a rivalry."
Pat Garrity made seven 3-pointers and added 21 points for
Orlando, which moved a half-game ahead of Milwaukee for the Eastern
Conference's fourth playoff seed and within a game of the idle
third-place Boston Celtics.
Orlando, winners of nine consecutive home games, is a
season-best seven games over .500.
Just before the tipoff, Rivers sought out Karl for a handshake.
It was a way of putting to rest their lengthy spat, which recently
took a turn for the ugly when Karl criticized Rivers in a magazine
"I'm glad that's over with, I really am. I thought there was
way too much attention on me and George," Rivers said. "We said
we'll talk in the summer; we'll go boating."
Said Karl: "I think it's great. As I said before the game, I
don't try to create hell for anybody."
Sam Cassell scored 23 points to lead the Bucks, who have lost
three straight and five of six. Ray Allen had 22 points and 11
rebounds, and Michael Redd came off the bench to score 14.
Glenn Robinson had 13 points and eight rebounds despite missing
most of the second half with a bruised tailbone.
"We still have confidence as a team," Cassell said. "We beat
Orlando 10 straight times and all good things must come to an
Eleven nights after scoring a career-high 50 points, McGrady was
all but unstoppable, scoring from outside, inside and everywhere in
between. Milwaukee had no answer, running at him big men (Joel
Przybilla, Robinson, Darvin Ham and Anthony Mason) and small
"They doubled a little bit in the second half, but we've got
too many shooters, man," McGrady said. "If I'm not going to hurt
you, my shooters are going to hurt you."
In the first half, McGrady shot 10-for-15 and made all five of
his 3-point attempts. That included back-to-back 3s that put the
Magic ahead 49-30 with 4:07 before intermission.
His 30 points before halftime was four short of the team record
set by Shaquille O'Neal against Minnesota on April 20, 1994.
McGrady finished 18-for-35 from the field, including 6-for-9 on
"I'm ready to get out of here and get into my bed," McGrady
said. "I'm exhausted right now."
All night, Milwaukee's offense struggled to the point where
Orlando's weaknesses -- defense and rebounding -- became strengths.
The Bucks committed 22 turnovers, leading to 21 points for the
Magic. Also, Milwaukee was outscored 16-13 on second-chance
Despite their struggles, the Bucks refused to go away quietly.
After the Magic opened a 20-point lead early in the third quarter,
Milwaukee cut the deficit to nine points on Allen's 3-pointer with
But Garrity answered with a 3-pointer, as he did two other times
down the stretch after the Bucks crept within 10. Garrity's shot
put Orlando up 98-87, and Milwaukee's rally was done.
"Pat made some unbelievable shots, but that's what he does,"
Cassell said. "If you allow him to shoot, he'll kill you."
Orlando opened the game slowly, allowing Milwaukee to jump out
to a 10-2 lead after three minutes. But the Magic then outscored
the Bucks by 20 points over the next 7:46 to take a 33-21 lead.
McGrady had 15 of his 17 first-quarter points in the 31-11 run.
Milwaukee's last loss to the Magic came on April 9, 1999 in
Orlando. The Bucks haven't lost to the Magic at home since April 8,
1997. ... Milwaukee forward Tim Thomas missed his fourth straight
game with a sprained right knee. Jason Caffey also sat out with a
sore right ankle. ... Orlando's Horace Grant posted his fourth
double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 12
rebounds. ... While Garrity and McGrady combined to shoot 13-for-19
on 3-pointers, their teammates went 0-for-7.
