Duncan scores 27 as Spurs take down Hawks

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Tim Duncan's big game wasn't a surprise. It
was the offense from his teammates that helped the San Antonio

Duncan scored 27 and San Antonio never trailed in beating the
Atlanta Hawks 106-93 on Friday night and winning its third straight
and sixth in the last seven games. Tony Parker added 19 points,
Malik Rose had 16, and Emanuel Ginobili scored a career-high 13.

"It was a good game, we focused well,'' San Antonio coach Gregg
Popovich said. "We played good defense and executed on offense. It
was a good night and it will be good day off tomorrow.''

The Spurs broke the game open with a 9-0 run to open the fourth
quarter. They led 80-62, following two free throws by Duncan with
10:48 left.

"In the third quarter we did a good job of not looking back,''
Duncan said. "In the past we've been letting teams back into ball
games. It's very important to put a team away when you're up and
tonight we did a better job of that and played better for a longer
period of time.''

Jason Terry scored 21 points to lead Atlanta, which lost its
13th straight road game. Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 17 and Theo
Ratliff 16.

"They are a good team and you just have to fight,'' Atlanta
coach Terry Stotts said. "They really hurt us from the free-throw
line. Duncan especially did a great job of making plays and getting
to the line.''

Ginobili scored 11 of his points in the final quarter as San
Antonio stretched its lead to as many as 20 points, 91-71. Atlanta
could get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

San Antonio led 49-42 at halftime and outscored the Hawks, 8-3,
to open the third quarter. The Spurs led 57-45 when Parker hit a
jump shot with 7:10 to play in the period.

"This is a good win, especially after a tough loss at the
buzzer against these guys last time,'' said Parker, who led the
Spurs with four assists.

Atlanta beat San Antonio 81-79 on Dec. 27 in Atlanta.

Duncan had eight points in the third quarter as San Antonio led
71-62 going into the fourth. Duncan, who also finished with nine
rebounds, had 17 first-half points. Terry had 12 points to keep
Atlanta close.

Glenn Robinson returned to the Atlanta lineup after missing the
last three games with a right elbow irritation and scored nine
points on 4-for-13 shooting. He had 10 rebounds.

"We want to win all of these games at home and give ourselves
an edge before that long road stretch coming up,'' said Duncan, who
was 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. "It is important for us to
take care of business at home now and worry about the road
