Heat rookie Wade sprained ankle in third

2/29/2004

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Another close game, another victory for the
Milwaukee Bucks.

Michael Redd scored 27 points, and Desmond Mason added 21,
helping Milwaukee beat the Miami Heat 108-104 Sunday for its third
victory in a row.

The Bucks' prevous two wins -- against Memphis and Boston -- were
by two points each.

"The last few games have been too close for comfort," Redd
said. "But we managed to get a win and get it done."

Miami rookie Dwyane Wade left the game with a sprained right
foot with about five minutes left in the third quarter. He went to
the locker room early in the fourth quarter and didn't return.

"We're just going to evaluate it and see where it's at," Wade
said.

Eddie Jones led Miami with 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting and
added five rebounds. Lamar Odom had 22 points and seven rebounds.

The Heat allowed their highest point total of the season, and
lost their third straight game.

"There was nothing positive about this one," Miami coach Stan
Van Gundy said.

Milwaukee had a 21-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but
Miami got within three late when Rafer Alston's 3-pointer cut the
Bucks' lead to 107-104 with 4.8 seconds left. However, Keith Van
Horn made one free throw to secure the victory.

"You know they're going to make a run," Milwaukee coach Terry
Porter said. "They hit some shots and really cranked it up on the
boards. We just didn't turn it up with them."

Wade, playing in his first game at the Bradley Center since
helping Marquette reach the Final Four last season, missed all
seven of his field goals. He had six points while going perfect
from the free-throw line, and added five rebounds and five assists.
He also had five turnovers in 25 minutes.

"I had an off night," Wade said. "I don't think I ever went a
game without hitting a shot. But that's the way it goes some
nights. Some nights you're good, some nights you're not. This was
one of those nights and I'm sorry it had to be in Milwaukee."

Wade, averaging 17 points per game, injured his foot late in the
first quarter when he was bumped awkwardly into the padded support
of the basket while on defense.

The play started when Redd stole the ball from Wade and went in
for a layup. Odom hit Redd's arm, causing Redd to knock Wade into
the post with 1:30 remaining. Wade re-entered the game in the
second quarter.

"At the time it felt real bad but I came back and tried to
play," said Wade, who was on the injured list the last time Miami
visited Milwaukee on Jan. 9. "I was just hurting myself and the
team more."

Milwaukee shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) in the third quarter to
take an 86-67 edge into the fourth quarter.
