New Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said he's talked to Carmelo Anthony about "running the court a little bit more" next season to get opportunities in transition. "He does it at times," Hornacek said Thursday. The coach added that he's seen instances where Anthony "would've gotten a 3-point shot off but (he was) so far back in the trail position that (he wasn't) ready when the kick-out came. He knows that if he can get the ball up the court a little bit quicker, we can push the ball up to him, attack a little bit quicker. So I think he knows that's part of that. Other than that, the guy's a great player. So we want him to continue what he's been doing." Hornacek also said Anthony wanted to strengthen his legs this offseason, after his first full season following knee surgery.

To those who may want to see the Knicks trade Carmelo & build immediately around Kristaps Porzingis, Phil Jackson brings up an interesting point. He says Porzingis, 20, isn't ready to take on the responsibility of being the face of a franchise -- a role that Carmelo fills in New York. "With Kristaps, I think he very much looks to Carmelo as kind of a leader... which I think is appropriate and I respect him for that. He's not ready to shoulder any burden on himself," Jackson said Thursday. "He's not a neophyte, but he's still very young in this game. A couple years under his belt and he'll start to understand his effect and how he can move forward. I think he's making progress this summer, doing the right thing." Jackson was responding to a question about the challenge of building a team around a 32-year-old Anthony and 20-year-old Porzingis. Construction a roster that makes sense for both Anthony and Porzingis is a delicate balance for Jackson.
