San Antonio now favorites in the West

After agreeing to a deal with LaMarcus Aldridge, San Antonio's odds to win the West dropped to 2-1, besting Oklahoma City and defending champ Golden State (both 5-1). Gregg Popovich's squad is 4-1 to win it all, behind only Cleveland (9-4).

Aaron Gordon off strong summer start

The second-year Magic forward, who averaged just 5.2 PPG as a rookie last season, has 18 points and 9 rebounds at halftime to give Orlando a 5-point lead over the Clippers on the first day of Summer League action.

Mavs hope to sign JJ Barea and Jeremy Lin. Have $2.8M exception, can create $2.6M slot by stretching Ray Felton. Both might get more $.

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine

ESPN sources say Mavs firmly in mix for Jeremy Lin -- who broke into NBA as a Dallas summer leaguer -- but Lin can make more money elsewhere

Aldridge following Duncan's steps

LaMarcus Aldridge is the only player in the NBA to average 23 points and 10 rebounds in each of the last 2 seasons. The last player to do it in back-to-back seasons was his new teammate: Tim Duncan (2001-02 and 2002-03).

Hezonja wearing #23, I'm sure that was just the number the equipment manager handed him...lol

Popovich intends to coach out contract

Gregg Popovich will look to complete the five-year contract he signed last summer, sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein. Adding LaMarcus Aldridge, sources say, all but clinches that he will indeed coach beyond Tim Duncan's playing career.

Aldridge picks the Spurs

The free agent tweeted, "I'm happy to say I'm going home to Texas and will be a Spur!! I'm excited to join the team and be close to my family and friends." His deal will be a four-year max contract worth more than $80M, with an opt-out after the third year, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Story

Southwest C/PF duos: Duncan/Aldridge Gasol/Randolph Jordan/Nowitzki Howard/Jones Asik/Davis Decent amount of big talent in the division.

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine

Signing of Aldridge all but clinches notion that Popovich, as we've been writing for a year now, will NOT go out when Tim Duncan goes out

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine

It only took five championships and nearly 20 years ... but the San Antonio Spurs are the darlings of free agency

Aldridge could give Duncan more rest

Signing Aldridge would allow the Spurs to rest Tim Duncan more. On the second night of back-to-back games last season, Duncan averaged 12.5 PPG and 8.1 RPG while playing just under 27 minutes. Aldridge averaged 22 points and almost 10 rebounds in 35 minutes a game on no days rest.

Wonder how much the city of Phoenix spent on that Aldridge billboard. Can go in same dumpster as the Los Angeles signs.

Lamarcus Aldridge @aldridge_12

I'm happy to say I'm going home to Texas and will be a Spur!! I'm excited to join the team and be close to my family and friends.

Kevin Pelton @kpelton

I'm not seeing who's going to make Reggie Jackson an offer. Teams with max-type room (LAL, ORL, PHI, POR, maybe UTA) unlikely to sign him.

High hopes in Dallas for DeAndre

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told radio station 1310 The Ticket in Dallas he sees DeAndre Jordan as a franchise player. "We see him as 'Shaq-like' but never having been given the opportunity. We told him if he came to the Mavs, he would be a focal point. He would grow into being a franchise player."

Rookies star in first Summer League game

The first final in Orlando Summer League saw the Heat beat the Pacers 92-76. Rookie Myles Turner (Indiana) led all scorers with 20 points and had 8 rebounds. Justise Winslow led Miami with 15 points on just 8 shots.
