Source: Baron Davis weighing options

It could be several weeks before veteran point guard Baron Davis' back allows him back on a basketball court, but a source says Davis hopes to decide by Monday what uniform he'll be wearing when that happens.

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat have all expressed interest in signing Davis, who was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday via the league's amnesty clause after his back flared up the first day of training camp. With both the Cavaliers and Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, reporting that Davis could miss eight to 10 weeks with his back problems, no team with salary cap space placed a bid on him during the 48-hour waiver period.

The Cavaliers still must pay his salary -- $13.95 million this season and $14.85 million next season -- but he's now available to any team, including those who can only offer a veteran's minimum salary. One source said the initial diagnosis may have been too conservative and that Davis could be back in four to six weeks.

Davis, 32, hopes to make his decision well before he's physically able to play so he can familiarize himself with the team's playbook and personnel and settle into his new home.

The Knicks have been particularly aggressive in landing Davis, a source said, and that could influence his decision.

"Going to a team that really wants him is an important part of it," the source said.
