Report: Magic to interview Hornacek
Hornacek recently emerged as a candidate to replace Stan Van Gundy in Orlando, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday. The former shooting guard currently is with Utah's team at the NBA Summer League in Orlando.
The Orlando Sentinel reported Monday that Hornacek and Phoenix Suns player development coach Lindsey Hunter will interview soon with the Magic. Hunter's candidacy previously had been reported by Orlando television station WMKG.
A 14-year veteran as a player who spent six-plus seasons in Utah, Hornacek would not confirm or deny his upcoming interview with the Magic, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
"If that's the case, then while I'm in Orlando and they want to talk to me, that'd be great," Hornacek told the paper.
The Magic have been searching for a coach since firing Van Gundy on May 21 -- the same day they parted ways with general manager Otis Smith. Orlando hired Rob Hennigan as its new GM on June 20.
Aside from Hornacek and Hunter, the Magic also are considering Golden State Warriors assistant Michael Malone, Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, San Antonio Spurs assistant Jacque Vaughn and Los Angeles Lakers assistant Quin Snyder, according to the Sentinel.
However, Snyder appears to be out of the running. The former Missouri Tigers coach has accepted a job as an assistant coach with CSKA Moscow, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
"This was a very difficult decision as Mike (Brown) and Mitch (Kupchak), and the entire organization, have been fantastic to work with, and while we're talking about one of Europe's elite teams, the Lakers are the highest caliber organization in the NBA and CSKA is the Lakers of Europe," Snyder told the Times.
