Former Syracuse great Pearl Washington dies

Dwayne "Pearl" Washington was 52. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor last summer and had surgery in the fall. He was an All-American at Syracuse from 1984 through 1986.

The Nets have announced that Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson had been named the team's new head coach.

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens on the Brooklyn Nets hiring Ronald Nored as head coach of their Development League team, the Long Island Nets: "I'm really happy for Ron. I love Ron. He's one of the all-time great leaders I've ever coached. It's great for him to figure out what he wants to do and the levels he wants to be at, with all of the different things he's been able to do as a college assistant this year and with us. That's a great thing for him." Nored, who played for Stevens at Butler, served as a player development coach with the Celtics and Maine Red Claws.

The Nets named Ronald Nored coach of their D-League team. He was formerly with the Boston Celtics organization as a player development coach and D-League assistant. Nored played for Brad Stevens at Butler, then was on his NBA staff.
