Are international NBA picks too risky?

Only 16 of the 30 players drafted in the first round were born in the U.S. (fewest since 1973). Eight of them did not play college basketball (T-most, 2003). The 2003 draft had eight such players, who have combined to play in zero All-Star Games.

Ford: Celtics could have done more

The only disappointment from Celtics fans should be that, by not making a big-splash trade on draft night, Boston wasn't able to further distinguish itself for when free agency arrives next week. Lots of teams have money and the Celtics are going to have to really sell their situation, though there's no shortage of positives to point to. As Danny Ainge said after Thursday's draft: "I'm confident we are moving in the right direction. We still have free agency and a lot of money to spend in the free-agent market to still build our team."

The Boston Celtics will introduce their rookies this afternoon at a press conference at their practice facility. Five of the team's six picks (everyone but Demetrius Jackson) will be present.
