So far ESPN Summer Forecast has projected the Nets to go 20-62 in 2016-17 while ESPN's Bradford Doolittle has them going 16-66 based on his statistical projection model. Brooklyn has been preaching patience as an organization since Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson took over. The rebuilding Nets figure to play hard for Atkinson on a nightly basis, but defense and overall talent are certainly question marks.

Nets won't match statistical projection

ESPN's recent Summer Forecast of the Eastern Conference calculated that Brooklyn will drop from last season's 21 wins to 20. Bradford Doolittle writes that the Nets won't get out of the teens. East's most underrated/overrated teams (Insider)

Heat $50 million G Tyler Johnson told reporters of his contract figure and signing the Nets' restricted offer sheet which Miami matched: "I threw up a couple times when I heard the number go out there. I was in shock. I even lost a little bit of weight just because of the anxiety of going through the process, not knowing where I was going to be. I mean, I was almost 100 percent sure I was going to end up in Brooklyn. But it's just an incredible feeling and I'm excited to get back to work."

New-look Nets will drop in East

ESPN's ninth annual Summer Forecast predicts Brooklyn, with new coach Kenny Atkinson and the return of Jeremy Lin to the five boroughs, will drop to a 20-62 finish. That will tie for last in the conference with Philadelphia. Forecast: 2016-17 East standings

It appears Nets PG Jeremy Lin has applied for a trademark on the phrase "Brook-Lin" for apparel purposes, according to records. A fan applied for and then transferred the trademark to Lin after he signed with Brooklyn, according to fan site NetsDaily.

Jeremy Lin said on JJ Redick's podcast that he wouldn't even have considered the Nets if Kenny Atkinson wasn't there in place as head coach. Liked the fact that he and Atkinson were at the bottom together in New York and worked their way up.

Same Linsanity returning to New York?

Since his first career start with the Knicks in 2012, Jeremy Lin's numbers have dropped in PPG, APG and Steals PG.

The Nets have 15 players under contract but that doesn't mean GM Sean Marks is done with the roster. Marks said the team will continue to listen and see what else is out there. Marks is glad despite missing out on his restricted free agent targets that the Nets have plenty of cap space and flexibly moving forward.

Brooklyn GM Sean Marks on what will define success for the rebuilding Nets next season: "I think it's going to be progress throughout the season. We've said enough about bringing in competitive guys. I think Kenny Atkinson is going to be able to bring the best out of those guys, and all these guys have come here to win, that's the bottom line. They haven't come here to say we're going to win 10 games or 15 games or 20 games. They want to win and they want to compete hard every night, so that's what we're going to be seeing from the vets and they'll be taking the younger guys with them."

Jeremy Lin on why he's betting on the Nets, Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson:

Jeremy Lin on how he can play better when "empowered" as a starter: "I have played a lot of different roles, I have sacrificed for a lot of teams that I have been on in the past, I have taken on smaller roles to try to help the team succeed. Now I have that chance to take a much bigger role and be a much bigger part. It is no surprise to anybody if you look at the numbers my whole career, when I have the ball in my hands, when I play longer minutes, when I am more comfortable, when I am empowered, I play better. And I am hoping I can take that next step as a player and hoping that I can help this team grow. I want to make my teammates better and make the game easier for everybody. I guess that is what will define me as a player."

Jeremy Lin on embracing his growing role as an Asian American role model more now: "When it first started... it became a burden because I didn't know what I had gotten myself into. I didn't know how big things had become... Three years removed (from Linsanity), every year I embrace it more, I am more appreciative, I love it more... I am in a much, much different place mentally as a person than I was when I was with the Knicks. So when you talk about that platform, I want to embrace it. (And) I am not just saying Asians. If you look at what is going on in the world and a lot of the violence that is going on in terms of the justice system and all these different things, that is real life. That is so much bigger than basketball. I have a voice because of basketball, to be able to talk and influence and do things that are related to things that are affecting people's lives. That is a very unique situation."
