The Rockets coaching search has emerged with two strong leading candidates for the job in Mike D'Antoni and Stephen Silas according to a source. Silas' two interviews with team officials, the last of which with owner Leslie Alexander on Thursday, impressed them so much that the team could see hiring him as a head coach replacing Kevin McHale, who was fired 11 games into the season. The team remains impressed with D'Antoni as well but haven't finalized anything yet.

With the latest actions today, the Houston Rockets have now interviewed 10 candidates for the vacant head coaching position. Some candidates met with team officials twice. Here are the names: J.B. Bickerstaff, Chris Finch, Stephen Silas, Mike D'Antoni, Rex Kalamia, Jeff Bzdelick, Kenny Smith, Sam Cassell, Jeff Hornacek and David Blatt. Hornacek is finalizing a deal to become the Knicks coach, Smith and Bickerstaff are out of the running. D'Antoni is the perceived favorite and it appears Silas and Kalamia might join the staff as an associate head coach under the new coach, if they don't get the head job.

Seven coaches hired, three to go

The reported hiring of Jeff Hornacek by the Knicks would leave three NBA teams still seeking to name new head coaches for the 2016-17 season. That's assuming no other positions come open anytime soon.
