Ellis can score, but not an All-Star

Monta Ellis, who's headed to Indiana on a 4-year deal, has a career scoring average of 19.3 PPG. That's the second-highest in NBA history among players who've never been named to an All-Star team, behind only John Williamson (20.1 PPG).

West left due to Bird, lack of contending

David West, who opted out of the last year of his deal with Indiana, just wants to win. "I'm just not sure the Pacers are in title contention right now," he said, calling the way president Larry Bird threw Roy Hibbert under the bus at the end of the season the last straw: "That did rub me the wrong way. That threw me off." (via WTHR)

Myles Turner a value pick for Pacers

Indiana landed the Texas forward at No. 11. Not only can Turner block shots, but he can shoot, giving him the raw skill set of the prototypical current NBA big man. Add in second-rounder Joseph Young, who can score off the bench, and the Pacers earned a thumbs-up from ESPN's Bradford Doolittle. Draft thumbs-up or thumbs-down

Indiana aims high and adds immediate help

The Pacers balanced a high-upside pick that will require patience -- Myles Turner -- with an NBA-ready bench scorer in second-rounder Joseph Young. If Turner develops properly on both ends of the court, this could be an excellent draft class. Chad Ford's draft grades (Insider)

Insider profile: Joseph Young

Young is an explosive scorer who is a solid finisher at the rim for his size. He’s improved his floor vision but still needs to add strength. Young averaged 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game last season. Undersized for position
