It didn't matter that the Heat were hot

Miami shot 57.1 percent from the floor on Tuesday night against San Antonio yet lost at home, 119-101. Elias Sports Bureau reports the Heat's 18-point deficit was the largest in NBA history for a host team compiling that high of a shooting percentage.

Hassan Whiteside was not available to the media after the game. He was asked by the team to leave after the ejection for his elbow on Boban Marjanovic early in the fourth quarter. Heat teammates said Whiteside was already gone from the locker room by the time they got to the showers after the 119-101 loss to the Spurs.

The thing about the Heat is that they just can't seem to be the same team two weeks in a row. So up and down. Still no consistent rotation or results. In other words, consistently inconsistent. Headed into the All-Star break 29-24.

Not sure if even Ray Allen can save the Heat this time.

When the Heat post one of their best shooting halves of the season and still trail 54-47 at the break, there's only one explanation necessary: they're playing the San Antonio Spurs.

Heat's defense hold Spurs to 7-of-27 shooting in the first quarter, and carry a 24-20 lead into the second. Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic combined for 10 points and 5 assists.

Heat lead Spurs by 4 after 1

Dwyane Wade was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field in the first quarter, helping Miami take a 24-20 lead over visiting San Antonio. The Spurs shot a dismal 25.9%, including missing all 3 of their 3-point attempts. Follow live

Short-handed Spurs take on Heat

San Antonio is without Tim Duncan (knee) and Manu Ginobili (groin) in Miami tonight. The good news: the Spurs were missing these two in their past two games and they won both. Follow live

Hassan Whiteside (ankle) warmed up and looks like he'll play tonight versus the Spurs. Amar'e Stoudemire remains in the starting lineup. Both Whiteside and coach Erik Spoelstra downplayed the bench role being an issue.

Heat to retire Shaq's No. 32 next season

"Shaquille O'Neal is one of the truly elite players in the history of the game and one of the greatest players to ever wear a Heat uniform," team president Pat Riley said. O'Neal, who already had his No. 34 jersey retired by the Lakers, spent three and a half seasons in Miami, helping the Heat to their first NBA title in 2005-06.
