Melo told The Undefeated on Michael Jordan's $2 million pledge: "That's big. Thats's MJ. That's Michael Jordan. As African-Americans, that's who we look up to. He's a great voice with a great platform. I'm just glad that he came out now and he used it at this time with everything going on."

This is something that will probably make Phil Jackson chuckle: in the trailer for the new movie "Suicide Squad" star Will Smith makes a reference to Jackson and his triangle offense. "You might want to work on your team-motivation thing. You heard of Phil Jackson? He's like the gold standard, OK? Triangle, ----." The Knicks haven't had much success running the triangle, but Jackson won a combine 11 rings in Chicago and LA while running the offense. As an aside, Jeff Hornacek will likely be tweaking the triangle this season, to the delight of some of the current Knicks players.

Jeremy Lin describes how he felt in the summer of 2012 when he signed with the Houston Rockets after the Knicks decided against matching the Rockets' 3-year, $25 million contract offer: "I was really, really sad. I was sad the way everything went down, 'cause nothing happened the way I thought it was going to" Lin, now a Brooklyn Net, said in an interview with the New York Post. "I had wished that they had offered me a contract just in the beginning, and that didn't even happen. And then, when I found out that they weren't gonna match, I was even more sad, 'cause honestly, I wanted to finish my career there.... I wanted to play for those fans who rallied behind that city, that came behind us and gave me that experience. I felt like I owed it to them."

Phil Jackson offered a critique of Kristaps Porzingis' shooting mechanics in a mid November interview with Today's Fastbreak's Charley Rosen published today: "Why is such a good shooter missing so many shots? Because his shot selection is not always good," Jackson said. "Because many of them are taken under the pressure of the shot clock running down. Because he's often knocked off-balance when he spins and shoots. And because he's shooting while he's turning instead of turning, planting and then shooting. But I'm not at all worried about his low shooting percentages."

Phil Jackson complimented Carmelo Anthony's leadership in a mid November interview with Today's Fastbreak's Charley Rosen: "He's definitely our front guy, and it's Carmelo who has to lead us along the right path and he's getting more comfortable doing this," Jackson said. "I've wanted him to take a bigger role in helping his teammates, and that's exactly what he did in today's game."

Derrick Rose said in an interview published by NBA.com this one of his focuses during summer workouts has been on his mid-range jump shot, which may be available to him frequently in the triangle offense. "That's an effective shot for me. A lot of people give it to me," he said. "….In the NBA today, if you can't shoot there's no point in you even being on the floor."

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

Derrick Rose said in an interview published by NBA.com that new coach Jeff Hornacek told him the Knicks would add "a lot of pick and rolls" to the triangle offense. This will likely be a welcome change for some of the Knicks who played in the offense last season and complained privately that it was too slow and predictable, per sources.

Is Derrick Rose delusional? (1:34)

Ian Begley ESPN Staff Writer

How high are expectations for the revamped New York Knicks? New point guard Derrick Rose curiously says some have put New York in the same ‘super team' class as the Golden State Warriors. "With these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams, and they're trying not to build that many super teams," Rose said in an interview published by NBA.com. Rose didn't say who grouped the Knicks with the Warriors, but it's a clumsy comparison to say the least.
