Carmelo Anthony reiterated on Friday that he hadn't spoken to Phil Jackson during the club's coaching search. "Nah," Anthony said while attending Friday's Mets game, according to Newsday. "I let them deal with that one." The Knicks are expected to announce the hiring of Jeff Hornacek next week. Anthony had stated a desire to share his opinion on potential coaches, but that didn't happen. Anthony also said Friday that he expects to be involved in the club's pursuit of free agents this summer. "Pretty sure," he said, according to Newsday. "When that time comes, we'll do the work."

The Knicks plan to acquire a pick in June's draft. The best-case scenario would probably be a late first-round pick but second-round is more likely. The club has shown interest in several players in recent weeks, including Indiana guard Yogi Ferrell, who has a workout scheduled with the club next month. New York also interviewed Kansas guard Wayne Selden at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago and has expressed interest in him as the draft approaches, according to league sources. Selden, a 6-6 guard, would fit the mold of the big guards Phil Jackson used in his Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Laker teams. Ferrell, a 6-0 guard, has impressed in workouts, according to sources, and was the only point guard last season to average 17 PPG, 5.5 assists and shoot at least 40% from 3. The Knicks have also expressed interest in St. Bonaventure guard Marcus Posley and will likely be one of many teams at the agency-hosted workouts for Seton Hall's Isaiah Whitehead and Syracuse's Malachi Richardson. They also attended the agency-hosted workout for Kansas' Cheik Diallo, according to SNY.tv.

In a Q&A with the NBPA, Carmelo Anthony was asked how Jeff Hornacek can benefit his game. "One thing I do know is he wants to play as a fast-paced team, up tempo," Anthony said. "You just look at the teams that he's coached in Phoenix, and how quickly they wanted to get up the court and play. We still have time to figure everything out as far as sitting down and seeing what he wants and seeing what we want as a team. And we'll figure that part out." More evidence that Hornacek will have the freedom to tweak the Knicks' version of the triangle offense.

Carmelo Anthony thinks he has plenty of good basketball left. In fact, he plans to play at least another seven seasons. "I think I'm in the prime of my career right now. I have years to go in this league," Anthony told CNBC. "I see guys playing 20 years. That's a goal of mine — to play 20 NBA seasons." Anthony, 31, would be just the sixth player in NBA history to reach the 20-season mark. Robert Parish, Kevin Willis, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have also played at least 20 seasons.

Byron Scott didn't think much of Kristaps Porzingis after the rookie's pre-draft workout with the Lakers. "We had him in at (a) workout, and he wasn't in great shape at that particular time, and you just didn't see all this," the ex-Lakers coach said on the Dan Patrick Show last week. "You knew the kid would be good, but you thought he'd be good in three or four years. You didn't think he'd be good this year, this early…. You just didn't get a chance to see everything he was capable of doing. Until the season started and we saw him in the Summer League, then I said, ‘Whoa, this kid is going to be pretty good.'" The Lakers ended up taking D'Angelo Russell and, thankfully for Phil Jackson, Porzingis was available to the Knicks with the fourth pick.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who famously turned down Phil Jackson and the Knicks to coach in Golden State, fully endorses the idea of hiring Jeff Hornacek. "I thought he did a phenomenal job in Phoenix," Kerr said Saturday, according to the New York Post. "That first year he got them to within a game of the playoffs in a loaded conference in a year when they were supposed to be a high lottery team…. This guy has a great knowledge of the game, great feel, and he's a really top-notch human being. I thought he was a great choice."

Jerian Grant is one Knicks who may benefit under Jeff Hornacek. Here's why: If Hornacek is permitted to tweak the triangle offense, it's fair to assume that he'll implement more pick and roll play. And if that's the case, Grant could thrive. The guard ranked in the 72nd percentile nationally in points per play as the pick-and-roll ball handler in his final season at Notre Dame, per Synergy Sports. When the defense committed to Grant on the pick-and-roll, good things happened. Notre Dame scored an average of 1.1 points per play in those situations, which ranked in the 90th percentile in the country. The Knicks, of course, didn't run much pick and roll last season. But if that changes under Hornacek, Grant could thrive.

Interestingly, Carmelo Anthony said he didn't share his opinion on the coaching search with Phil Jackson before Jeff Hornacek was offered the job. "Whatever Phil did, he did on his own," Anthony said in an interview Saturday with WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck. Anthony said several times in recent weeks that he hoped to share his thoughts on the team's next coach with Jackson and Knicks. Though he certainly didn't seem upset about the Hornacek hire in his interview Saturday.
